Kathy Griffin attempted to kiss Anderson Cooper's crotch during the CNN New Year's Eve live broadcast. As correspondant Gary Tuchmandescribed the local tradition of kissing a sardine in Eastport, Maine , Kathy knelt down to kiss the newsman's "sardine" for good luck in the new year.
Cooper successfully blocked Kathy from getting close to his private area but was forced to remain on guard for the remainder of the telecast as she made repeated attempts to get near his genitalia throughout the night. At one point Anderson told viewers, "It's getting to be the hour where bad things happen" as he reminded Kathy of her wild behavior in past years.
