Released on Wednesday (December 12th) was the annual Google Zeitgeist report, showing what the top searches were for 2012 using the search giant in several categories. Whitney Houston, who died unexpectedly in February, topped the list of the year's 1.2 trillion searches around the world. The other categories were most searched: images; athletes; events; people; films; TV shows; performing artists; consumer electronics; airlines; and Google-plus hashtags.
The year's top 10 overall searches were:
- Whitney Houston
- "Gangnam Style"
- Hurricane Sandy
- iPad 3
- Diablo 3video game
- Kate Middleton -- Wife of Britain's Prince William
- Olympics 2012
- Amanda Todd -- 15-year-old Canadian girl who killed herself after being cyber-stalked, blackmailed and bullied
- Michael Clarke Duncan --Actor who died suddenly in September.
- BBB12 -- TV show Big Brother Brasil
