The bass guitar that late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain picked up and smashed at the end of the iconic video for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is going up for auction, according to Loudwire. Christie's of London has the Japanese Zen-On guitar -- or what's left of it -- going on the block on November 29th, where it is expected to sell for somewhere between $25,000 and $40,000.

  • Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselicbought the 1960s instrument at a pawn shop, where he was looking for something cheap that he knew could be smashed in the video.
  • The pieces of the bass were allegedly picked up and taken home by a teenager who appeared as an extra in the video.
  • The rest of the auction includes memorabilia from both music and film, including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, the Indiana Jones movies and the James Bond series.
